Bobbi Brown Event, Haul, and Review

Yesterday I had the privilege of joining some lovely ladies at the 900 North Michigan Ave Bloomingdale's to preview the new Bobbi Brown Fall Desert Twilight Collection. I had been up since 4am for my day job and rather than go home, rush, and change, I decided to head straight downtown. Woo, long day!

The new Desert Twilight collection (top left) was full of beautiful deep neutrals. My favorites were the gel liner and cream shadow— one a brownish-purple shimmer and the other a turquoise. One of the artists was using the turquoise cream shadow as a liner. I love it! There were even matching nail lacquers in the same tones. Swoon

The rest of the event was filled with delicious cookies and some tutorials from the Bobbi Brown team.

And finally, Joanna gave me the most beautiful purple smokey eye! It's definitely more than I normally wear, but I totally love it and can't wait to try it on my own. (I wish I had a better photo of it, but it was a perfect gradient from navy to eggplant to neutral browns!)

So onto the product reviews! I love the sleek black and simplistic packaging of all of their products. First up is the Bobbi to Go with the Smokey Neutral Eye Shadow Palette and Mini Extreme Party Mascara.

The palette has a lot of the similar colors that Joanna used on my smokey eyes. From top to bottom, left to right: Navajo Metallic (I cringe at that name...), Cement, Velvet Plum Metallic, Caviar, Navy, Rockstar Metallic, Sterling Shimmer Wash, Snow Shimmer Wash.

Here are the shadows on skin in natural light with no primer. They start with Navajo Metallic and end with the Snow Shimmer Wash. My favorites are easily the matte Cement and Navy!

Left: Perfect Defined Mascara, Right: Extreme Party Mascara
The Extreme Party Mascara that came in this kit has a really nice brush. It's much more full than the Bobbi Brown Perfect Defined Mascara as you can see on the left. Both formulas seem very similar, but brush makes a world of difference. The Extreme Party Mascara also stays very soft and my lashes didn't get dry and stuff throughout the day!

And lastly, that little tub of Hydrating Eye Cream! This stuff is so smooth and wonderful. It has a very faint and clean scent and doesn't feel oily on my skin (finally!). I am admittedly not an expert on skincare — and I feel like I should brush up on that — but this is finally something that doesn't leave the area look shiny and sticky.

Overall, I think these cosmetics are great basics to have in your bag. The prices are comparable to MAC. I do appreciate that Bobbi Brown does not test on animals, but I wish I didn't have to dig through their website to find out! I would be more apt to buy a product at the makeup counter if it were actually printed on the box. It's no good if I have to use Google inside Bloomingdales to see if a product meets this standard. Aside from that, go check out the Twilight Desert collection if you get the chance. And who knows, I think maybe my faith in gel eye liner may have been restored...

Big thanks to Yanira of Manolos, Manicures, & This Mom and Rita from ChiTownFashionista for hosting!
