Best of 2013

What a year, am I right? Between leaving my job, killer tunes, moving across the country, being a jet-setter, meeting Lil Bub (yes), and the always-interesting antics of Miley Cyrus, it's been a doozie. Come check out my favorites of 2013.

First we'll start with last year's resolutions. I knocked out 3/5 of these — sparing myself a furry friend (oh my gosh, I'm so pissed at Santa for not bringing me a piglet this year! haha) and missing the boat on getting a motorcycle back in July (ugh!). Time, my friends. The motorcycle (already named Milo) and the piglet/puppy (already named Penny) will happen... eventually.

Favorite Films

Blue Jasmine — I consider myself a pretty harsh critic of Woody Allen. I know his work backwards and forwards, and typically his new films leave something to be desired. This time around, I left the movie feeling very uncomfortable. Cate Blanchett was amazing and the story was wrapped up well, unlike some of Allen's recent tries.

Spring Breakers — I hate myself for putting this movie on this list. The notion that crazy stuff can pass as 'art' is sometimes, ehhh,  you know. But the reason this made it to my top list for the year is because of the scene where James Franco covers Britney Spears and a group of college girls dance with guns and ski masks.

Blackfish — If you have Netflix and you haven't seen this, stop what you're doing right now and watch it. It's so well done and exposes how orcas are captured and treated in places like SeaWorld — plus touches on some theories on orca psychology, dialects, and community. Truly heartbreaking and eye opening.

Filmage — I finally got the chance to see this earlier this month and it made me feel so fucking good. I grew up listening to Descedents and this is a tell-all from their start, to Milo leaving (to go to college, hehe) and their transition into ALL. The filmmakers did an awesome job capturing the story and following the band. Check out their website for screening info.

While I love the set design and costuming (and Leo DiCaprio) in Gatsby, it was still meh. And, no, I haven't seen Gravity yet — I want to check it out and chuckle to myself while thinking back on Neil deGrasse Tyson's awesome tweets.

Favorite Tracks

Unfortunately the new Beyonce album isn't on Spotify yet. BUT I would put Flawless on this list faster than you even know. I'm pretty sure that's going to be my 2014 theme song.
