Oh Well, Whatever, Nevermind

I felt like doing a little dress-up grunge today. I totally forgot I had these platform sandals in my closet and ugh I love them.

Silver Screen Style // Maleficent

I'm not sure how I went so long without seeing this. I loved it — the change of the story, the twist, the fashion (Angelina is breathtakingly beautiful IMO), the makeup. Oh man. Seriously. I'm so stoked that Disney strayed from their typical The-Prince-Is-The-End-All-Be-All storylines. But, for the sake of those of you who have yet to see it, I'll spare the spoilers. Maleficent is officially my Bad Bitch Captain for the summer.

How Soon Is Now?

It's not really any secret that I l-o-v-e The Smiths. Brock had this vintage smiths tee a gift it to me a while back. Problem was, it was one of those weird old baby blue with white screen print. I love my Moz, but I can't really get down with a weird baby blue tee.

Trend // Co-Ords

One of my favorite summer trends are coordinates. Ya know, tops and bottoms to match. There's really something effortlessly 90s about this look (um, Clueless, anyone?) that I feel is a great alternative to the core cut-out dresses we've been seeing for the past few years. Ark has done a great job making co-ords easily available and shoppable through their site. Here are my five favorite picks from their site.

The Wave

I picked up this floral slip last week at a vintage shop. Whoever was the previous owner did a pretty botch job altering it, so I spent my morning taking out some stitching and lengthening the straps.

Weekstagram // June 22

Do you ever take a moment to look at the world through a new lens? There are some great finds if you change your perspective — even if it's simply to get another point of view temporarily, I find it has a positive impact on how I approach things from then forward. Always on a quest to be well-rounded and level-headed.

Also, Brock and I are now shoe twins, which is pretty cute.

Silver Screen Style // Stand By Me

Stand By Me is one of my favorite summertime kid-centric stories. I always viewed it as a rougher, grittier version of The Sandlot. The 50s camping vibe is an extra piece to make this movie great.

June Wishlist

I've been on my bicycle so much that I'm starting to realize how much I despise my cross-body messenger bag. As a lady (and a rather small-chested one, even), the strap just isn't comfortable on my boobs. So in an effort to retire my patch- and mud-covered Timbuk2, a new roll-top backpack is the top at my June wishlist.

The Very Windy Day

I can't get enough of roomy, cool dresses. This boho-style dress is so fun to pair with an edgier leather jacket and colorful sandals.

June Color Palette

Part of me will probably always associate the navy and orange color palette with *NSYNC's debut album form the late 90s. Either way, I love the integration of the two colors, especially in boho style patterns and interiors. Here are a few of my favorite selects in this summery color way.

The Wall

I'm loving this mild June weather. I hope it lasts a while. I'm indifferent on the rain, but the cool mornings and evenings are really something fantastic.

Beach Black

Call me biased, but I'm a sucker for black swimwear. I mean, I'm a sucker for black clothing in general — but a majority of my swimwear lacks florals and bright colors. Anyway, a general rule of thumb: put on a suit and head to the beach this summer. High waisted, hipster brief, boy shorts, high thigh, string, single-piece, whatever. Embrace your weird tan lines this year (I might the queen of kooky lines thanks to swimsuits and such) with lots of strappy goodness.

Haul and Review // The Makeup Show Chicago

In between running around all weekend, I was able to stop by The Makeup Show Chicago in Bridgeport. I have been looking forward to it for some time and headed down to Bridgeport yesterday to see what the vendors had to offer.

The Power of 3 Tour Dates

I'm excited to announce the Mazda Power of 3 Tour Dates! A couple weeks ago, I shared with you all my journey with Mazda and how I was selected as one of their three innovators. Many of you were curious how you could vote and help me win the $20,000 to further Mini Penny and An Honest Tote.

Northwestern

It was fun strolling around Northwestern Campus last week and looking at all the old spots with Priya. Comfy was the name of the game.

What's In My Bag // Everyday

I'm excited to share a new feature on Mini Penny: What's In my Bag! You all can take a peek inside what I carry around to the gym, to the beach, when I'm on my bike, and every day. I always think it's interesting to see what others carry on a day-to-day basis, so feel free to share your own What's In My Bag posts or images in the comments!

Review // Julep June Boho Glam Box + Promo Code

It's been a while since I've gotten a Julep Maven box. The past few months, I haven't been in love with the selections. June's options were metallic and shiny, so I opted for the Boho Glam box.

Red White and Spotted All Over

I picked up this great skirt from Lost Girls Vintage last weekend at Randolph Street Market and was anxious to wear it!

Weekstagram // June 1

When I was a kid, I went to a lot of summer camps. They were mostly educational- and leadership-based — Miami of Ohio, Ohio Wesleyan University, and my favorite, Northwestern University. At Northwestern, they ran a really great series of camps called CTD (short for Center for Talent and Development). For three weeks un June and July, my parents would drive me to Chicago and drop me off at the campus, where I would stay in dorms and take science classes. It. Was. Awesome.
