Happy Halloween!

It's here, Minis! My favorite time of year! I had so much fun putting together my Halloween costume this year and it was so hard to not share it early. Most of the pieces were already in my closet, plus a little DIY for the ears — and wha-la! Miss Piggy! I can't wait to go out in the city and share my costume. I even made this hoodie for Brock to wear with eyes made from ping pong balls and a neckline of felt!

The Lakefront

We had some unseasonably warm weather this past weekend. Brock and I rode the motorcycle out to Diversey Harbor and enjoyed some sunshine on the lakefront. Click through for more photos!

You've Got Nail 44

I've been neglecting my manicures a bit lately. I have either been wearing no nails at all or just solid black. I figured today that I'd get back into the swing of it with this design that seems to be pretty popular this season. I've seen quite a few blogs refer to it as "cat claws" for Halloween with nude as the background and black triangles. I switched it up with two tones of green for a less spooky feel.

Flowers for Dreams Housewarming Party

Last week I was invited to check out the opening of Flower For Dreams's new space in Chicago. As some of you may remember, I ran a little giveaway with them a few months back. They're a really great local flower delivery service. Their bouquets are beautiful and they donate to charity with each order!

Silver Screen Style // Vampire's Kiss

Enter one of the worst movies. Seriously, this movie is borderline unwatchable for most. However, it's pretty hilarious if you find humor in nonsense story lines and Nic Cage's bad acting. With that being said, I love this movie. I know it's awful, but it cracks me up. It's full of really awful 80s fashion and interior design. Oh, and fake vampire teeth.

Bundled

I bought this ruana years ago and, since then, have left it folded on a chair in my apartment. It wasn't until this week that I decided to actually wear it. See more photos and details after the jump.

Ways To Wear It // Halloween

I don't care what you are for Halloween— whether it be a creepy zombie or a "slutty" something-or-other — homemade always trump those bought in a bag. The best part is, there are so many costumes you can make using vintage pieces and things from your own closet! Click through for a few of my favorite ideas after  the jump.

The Pumpkin Show

Last week I took a trip home to Ohio for the first time in three years. Part of it was visiting friends and family, part of it was a buying trip, and part was to enjoy this kitschy carnival in my hometown called the Circleville Pumpkin Show. See more photos (and goats!) after the jump.

Tuxedo Stripes

These chilly fall days have been great for motorcycle rides. The faux leather jacket that I've been wearing for years (I got it at a thrift store) has started falling apart — so I got this replacement just in time. See more photos after the jump.

Silver Screen Style // The Fly

The 1986 version of The Fly is one of my favorite remakes ever. It has everything — weird 80s fashion, gratuitous gore, and even Jeff Goldblum in his underwear (before, of course, he turns into the hideous Brundlefly). If you haven't seen it, seek it out.

Recipe // Apple Pancakes

Autumn and apple picking go hand-in-hand. A few weeks ago we visited the orchard and picked ourselves a couple pecks of honey crisps. We immediately made baked apples with vanilla ice cream (yum!), and a few days later were pining for some apple pancakes for breakfast.

Ways to Wear It // Duster Cardigan

When I was a freshman in high school, I had a black knit duster cardigan. I wore it to death. I was so sad when I had to retire the darn thing — yet I can nearly guarantee that I probably didn't wear it well in my teenage years. I am so excited to see dusters and "coatigans" come back for this season. Check out some outfit inspiration for length sweaters after the jump.

Playing Cat and Mouse

Fall weekends at the Logan Square Farmer's Market are perfect for cozy sweaters and hot coffee. I really miss living on this street — it really has some lovely homes!

October Wishlist

With it being my favorite time of year, it's tough to not go out and buy a load of fall garments for layering. I love dressing for autumn!

Silver Screen Style // Carrie

The Shining was the first Stephen King book I read as a child (I was in the fourth grade). Afterwards, I read Carrie. And immediately after that, I rented the movie. The original 70s version of this film is iconic and badass. Don't mess with this woman.

Under the Hood

Grey days call for monochrome outfits. Hell, most days for me lately have called for monochrome outfits. I've been broadening my collection of boots this season, and am currently lusting over these chained pair.

October Color Palette // Oxblood

Fall is my favorite time to break out the burgundy, oxblood, and maroon tones. I'm not much for bright reds, but the deep and rich colors keep me feeling cozy in the dropping temperatures. The best part is that oxblood goes with so much of your wardrobe — black, white, denim, dusty rose, grey... you name it. Check after the jump for some crimson picks and inspiration!

Transitions

I can't even explain how great this day was. I fell in love with the most perfect sweater — his plaid number — and finally got a pair of boots that are good fits to replace my falling-apart-Jeffrey-Campbells (of which I have been unable to find the exact pair anywhere online!). Friends are back in town, the leaves are already changing, and I finally found the lip gloss I have been searching for.

Giveaway // Gold Lumsing Portable Charger

I use my iPhone 6 and iPad a lot when I'm out and about — at work, when I'm writing at coffee shops, and when I'm out with friends I use my phone for photos and videos. One of my biggest worries is my battery life depleting and having no where to charge. Sure, this typically seems so far down on the list of actual problems, but I don't like the thought of being out somewhere and having no ability to get in touch with someone during an emergency.

Silver Screen Style // The Craft

Here we go, Minis. It's October. October! My favorite time of year. It's been a grip since I've created a Silver Screen Style post, and I figure what better way to bring it back than with a month of movies based around my favorite time of year. First, of course, is The Craft. I noticed the other week that it's on Netflix, and rewatched it for the first time in years. As a teenager in the late 90s, my friends and I snuck to watch this movie despite our parents' most certain disapproval. Because... witches are cool.

Check out my outfit inspiration from The Craft after the jump.

Goodbye Horses

I have been searching for the perfect striped shirt. I'm obsessed with this one. My closet is slowly transforming into all blacks, whites, and grays. Naturally, I have no complains. See more photos and outfit details after the jump.
