A few months ago I noticed my local drugstore carrying the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polish. I've been wanting to give it a try and finally decided to pick up one shade and the top coat last week and give it a spin.
The concept with this polish is that it uses regular light to cure instead of a UV light. I've had gel manicures in the past and loved them, so being able to achieve a similar set of nails at home is definitely enticing. I ended up buying Birthday Suit (a light beige that nearly matches my skin tone) and the Top Coat.
Initially, I found the application of Birthday Suit to be a little cumbersome. The brush was uneven and I had to trim it to make it useful. It took me four coats to get a non-streaky, full covered nail. The Top Coat applied just fine and dried quickly and smoothly.
However, I was very disappointed by the lack of shine of the top coat — it was less glossy than my normal Seche Vite. Beyond that, I tested it out with some nail designs and found that it pulled and streaked my designs beyond repair. So long story short, I love the color of Birthday Suit, but can find a better coverage and brush with Essie, and the gel topcoat will now become a backup to use only when I wear solid-colored nails. Has anyone else had better experience with this line? As it stands, I probably won't be buying any additional colors.
Here's what I used:
