When I found out about ColourPop Cosmetics on Instagram, I though they were too good to be true. The colors looked great and the price was really low — would the product itself live up to the hype? First I ordered three colors. I liked them a lot and ordered another five. Lined up, some of the tubes look very similar in color. But swatched, they take on a totally different personality. Check out all eight colors after the jump.

Left to right: Midi, Trap, Kapow, Beeper, Limbo, Tulle, Lax, and Guess. They all go on slightly wet and then set to a great matte finish!

Midi — Soft Neutral Beige
This is a wonderful beige that is very close in color to my natural lip and skin tone. The matte finish is pigmented and even. When I first apply it, it looks a little bit like concealer (and pretty weird). But as it sets, it really looks fantastic!

Side by side with Lime Crime Couqette lipstick, you can see that it's a little darker. Perfect! I used to love Coquette, but find that in the summer time, it's too light on my very slightly tanned skin. Besides, the Coquette is a lip stick, not a matte finish.

Trap — Dusty Greige
Trap is the exact color I've been searching for forever! I've been seeing so many beautiful ladies on Instagram with the greige trend on their lips and I have struggled to find any drug store brands that come close. I ordered this color in my first round of orders and it's my go-to color for every day wear. I love it!

Kapow — Muted Grey Taupe
This came in my second order and my god, it's beautiful! It's a slightly darker version of Trap and looks awesome. I know I'm going to be rocking this all autumn and winter! Kapow has my favorite consistency and opaque pigmentation.

Beeper — Warm mid-tone taupe
I like this color, but I'm not as in love with it as the others. It's a really good neutral for days I want to wear makeup while looking a little more "natural."

Limbo — Deep Chocolate Brown
This color is a little more red than I had expected. As I seem to be running into with most of the darker colors, it sometimes shows a little less opacity once it sets. It's still really beautiful! The strange thing is, it nearly matches my hair color to a tee. I look super coordinated whilst wearing this, hah!

Tulle — Dusty Mauve Burgundy
I love this color, but it takes a lot more work to look like the sample image on the site. It sets a little blotchy, as you can see in the image above. The shade is fantastic, but be prepared for some dedicated application.

LAX — Vampy Blackened Red
This is a great red for the cooler weather, but as with the other dark colors, I run into a little bit of uneven coloring. Regardless, this lasts so long, which I rarely find with reds.

Lined up beside NYX Copenhagen, you an see how much more pigmented LAX actually is. I love my NYX Copenhagen, but this may be a solid replacement!

Guess — Dark Blackened Violet
I, uh, like this. But something about it reminds me of an old Lime Crime Carousel gloss that I used to have. I'm grateful for the matte finish, but I know this is going to be a special occasion wear.

And here's Guess compared to NYX Transylvania. I really love Transylvania, and I think it's slight creaminess and transparent color allows for more versatility for wearing every day. Like I said, I see Guess being a special occasion wear, and because of that, I think it's my least favorite of the group.

Pros
❖ Affordable! Only $7 Each.
❖ Made in the USA and are cruelty-free.
❖ Great, modern color selection.
❖ Super long wear. Most of these have given me success for wearing an entire 13-hour work shift with no reapplication required. They last through eating and drinking and kissing!
❖ Easy application with the provided brush.
❖ Opaque and very pigmented!
❖ I haven't had any issues with feathering — even without lip liner nor primer!
Cons
❖ If you do reapply, the result can look a little flaky.
❖ Because they're so good at staying on all day, they can be a little difficult to remove with regular makeup remover wipes. Keep some coconut oil handy.
❖ The cute holographic decal on the tube rubs off. This is purely trivial, but AH!
❖ The shipping is slow. Like, really, really slow.
❖ Drying. This is inevitable with any matte lip color. With that being said, that the colors I wear often are less drying the my NYX Matte Lip Creams! Drying lip color is never fun, though.
Other notes
❖ Since these dry so quick, they aren't great for mixing and blending!
❖ Take note that the colors they represent on their Instagram don't seem to be accurate. I've seen them repost some images of ladies wearing the colors I own and they look nothing like what I have. I've read some other reviews that make note of the colors on the website not being very accurate. I feel like most of my purchases were very close to the web colors, with a little leeway given for monitor color calibration.
❖ Other reviewers have also noted that the tubes leak. I haven't had this problem at all and I've had them in a motorcycle saddlebag in a non-upright position.
Overall I'm really impressed with the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips! I've already bought eight and I want to buy more and try more of their products. There are more Ultra Matte colors and more lip and eye makeups that I am considering picking up. Have you tried them? What are your thoughts?
