Most of us have been using social media long enough to know the basics. Over the years, I've gone back and forth between limiting hashtag use to maximizing their potential. Here's a list of my favorite hashtags to use (and look to for inspiration!) and how I set up my phone and tablet to easily access this information.
For starters, it helps to know some basic tips. Instagram only allows 30 hashtags per image and keep in mind that sometimes "hashtag spamming" is a turnoff to followers. For this reason, rather than cramming a bunch of tags into the caption, I create a separate comment where I copy and paste all of my appropriate hashtags from a pre-made Notes template.
The Hashtags
I separate my favorite hashtags into a few categories. These are hashtags I've found from networking on Instagram, seeing other bloggers or photographers use them, and reading others' blog posts about what they like to add to their posts!

Those are the basics, plus I commonly use location-based hashtags like #chicago #chicagoigers, etc, and my personal hashtag #minipennyblog. I keep all of the hashtags I like to use in my Notes app under different categories, plus have keyboard shortcuts set up for different groupings of tags.
Setting up keyboard shortcuts is really easy and can be helpful when there are hashtags that you use often. See step-by-step instructions here.
This is how I have my shortcuts set up. They're divided into pretty specific categories (bloghash, fithash, floralhash, etc).
And when I type in the shortcut, my phone or iPad auto-fill the hashtags that I choose. This is a great time saver, especially since there are so many hashtags for the different types of photos I post.
